December sewing

This was my week 48 challenge.  Make something new.   I actually made 2 of these and 2 skirts to go with them.  I’ll have to take pics when we wear them again.  I had this fabric and decided to make a batwing style shirt with them.  I actually ended up buying 2 new patterns.  I used the one by Sinclair.  It needed some modification to not be so low in the back and I should have used a different fabric for the binding at the neck to be sturdier, but it is wearable, and lily and have matching shirts and green maxi skirts that aren’t identical just both green to go with them.

An extra project.  Sewing fabric from my stash.  Brandon has been getting cold lately and this is a nice fuzzy fabric on the wrong side that I thought would make a nice cozy oversized sweatshirt

Week 50 challenge.  Something for your head/ears.  This is a pattern I’ve wanted to try for quite some time but haven’t.

Bought a scrap pack of bamboo French terry from the styled magnolia.  I had to play with how to use it but it was nicely themed fabric.  I made this and a shirt for me and still have some plaid left over.

Made another pair of sweats for Ben after he bought another pair or two that are entirely too short.

Another styled magnolia fabric I picked up on retail this month.
I used this shirt as week 50. Sew something for yourself.

Elf day for lily.  I made a quick had and collar.  It was too warm to wear the Gnome shirt above.  Wondered if we’d get to wear them this season but it got down to 15 a couple of nights ago so the shirts got worn.

Week 49 sew a holiday gift.  Made slippers for lily and Duncan.  Then Aaron saw that they were camo and wanted a pair.  He ended up really liking them.  They are reversible but I don’t foresee either boy wearing them on the brown side.  Lily may wear hers on the purple side if she keeps track of them.

Here’s my gnome shirt.  Slightly different.

Yet another shirt I made this month from the styled magnolia retail another bamboo French terry.  That fabric is so comfy.

November sewing

I got a decent amount done this month considering how busy it has been.  Lots of sick or out of town clients helped work be less busy so I could sew more.  I addition to getting my projects done for 52 weeks of sewing, I made myself a new sweatshirt.  (Top right). I had wanted to try the pattern because I was interested in the cowl neck.  However it looked ridiculous on and pulled funny, didn’t lie right… so I switched it to a regular neck band.  I love the shirt and the little side pockets. Sadly it is way to tight in the shoulders and neck for me so it got passed to lily.  I made myself a regular raglan shirt to match lily because it liked the pink and the black leopard.

My 52 week projects were a pj shirt, a fun skirt for lily.  I hate ruffles, but lily loves them.  I wanted to make something tinier but didn’t get it done with thanksgiving week and cleaning and regular stuff that needed to get done so the shorts were the tiniest thing I made last month. I did those as part of a sew a long that Teal hosted.  My last project was bowl covers for something for the kitchen.

September and October sewing

Obviously I didn’t post September sewing.  I guess I got busy.  I was busy cleaning and reorganizing the playroom after tavio moved out so maybe that is why I didn’t who knows.  I was also busy and didn’t make a lot of the normal 52 weeks of sewing challenges that I usually do again, I think because of lots of cleaning and organizing.  I got done sewing that needed to get done, nothing extra.

Week 36 was something for your feet.  I made some slippers.  Started the month out great.

Week 37 was a book character or tv something.  No inspiration for that and we bought skirts for lily and she needed new shorts to go under them so that is what got made.

Week 38 was make something with canvas or vinyl.  I got a new purse all cut out and even put all of the interfacings on it but my regular machine has not been playing nicely lately.  It refused to sew the vinyl.  More shorts for under another skirt.

Week 39 was make something reversible.  I had every intention of making another pair of slippers but this time for lily.  However this is when the playroom cleaning started, so the slipper making did not happen.  This time t-shirt needed for under a romper got entered.

This month I did better at staying to topic, and even go t my collage done.  The only thing I didn’t do was week 42.  It was an interesting stitch but again my machine will only sew a straight stitch right now and I had already done the wave stitch on my overlock for embellish something week earlier this year.  I needed to make a quilt block for a group quilt we are making for a friend with cancer so that is what got made for that entry.

August sewing

This month I actually got a lot of sewing done.  Above are my entries for the 52 weeks of sewing challenges.  I embellished the bottom of a skirt I made for lily with rainbow thread in a wave pattern.  The second week was something for school.  I did tons in this area.  The skirt was part of this, plus the skirt and shirt pictured above, plus a purple skirt and shirt that I’ll add below.  The third week was something with stuffing or batting.  Much as I wanted to get this done, I did too much school sewing to get this completed.  I entered a dress I made as a pattern tester.  The forth week was to hem or alter something.  I added elastic to my sheets so they would quit falling off the bed.

More school clothes.  Skort and shirt.
This month I also managed to finish my purse.
Here is the shirt that went with the skirt above.

June and July sewing

June and July were a bit crazy.  We started with a trip to Hawaii at the beginning of June that put be behind in life coming home.  We also brought a neice back with us to stay the summer.  I had my back mostly rehabbed and stupidly decided to lift weights.  That but me back to worse than in January when I first hurt myself.  I literally spend 2 weeks taking ibuprofen to go to work and coming home and laying on ice packs.  It was miserable.  Needless to say, I didn’t go upstairs or do any sewing.  Luckily I had finished 4 items for June before I hurt myself.  I had goals to hit all of the categories but ended up happy to have 4 items made.  I had surgery on July 13.  I had to recover for a few days, so I got a super late start on July.  Plus I had to finish a final exam for a nutrition certification I was taking.  I barely finished 4 items for July  on the last day of the month.  Sadly, only one follows the 52 week sewing theme.  But, I’m happy I made 4 items.  Hopefully not that I’m feeling better I can get more done.

for July, I followed the theme for the pics on the left, but not on the right. Those themes were mix patterns and rainbow inspired.  The other 2 themes were history bounding and sew without a pattern.  Those didn’t happen, but I did make myself a summer shirt and Kaylee a dress.
For July, I didn’t follow themes except for 1.  Themes were upcycle, something to make sewing easier, and bathing suit or outerwear.  I am counting the shorts in the bottom right as hack or mash a pattern.  I had to hack things to have enough fabric to make the shorts.  I pieced the waistband together.  I also hacked the pockets.  They were made with a bias binding that I didn’t wNt to do so I made them regular.
My other projects there were a dress for Kaylee (also accidentally hacked because I just an extra front piece for the lining back.  I had to piece a piece on to make it match the back because I didn’t have enough fabric to recut it.  The next shirt is mother shirt for me with multiple patterns again.  And finally I sewed up red shorts I had cut out for Benjamin ages ago.

May sewing

So this year I have a goal to complete the 52 weeks of sewing challenge.  Past January I have accepted all of them.  I k I could possibly get the bag done this month, and I planned to use one of the dresses I made as something to display but then I got Covid and had to stay home and quarantined.  Took a whole day, but I finally made my first bag!  yea!  That has been a goal for a whiles.  Here are the rest of the things I made
got the stuff to make that nightie ages ago.  Kind of glad I waited until I had more experience sewing knits.  It was some slippery stuff.  I'm most proud of the bag.  Many it took me some time.  Mostly because I hadn't done one  before and understanding all of the interfacing and hardware was like a new language.  I had to reorder hardware because I had the wrong size.  Not to make mine - this one is Lily's.  The panrs are my favorite leggings because they are made to my measurements.  These seem a bit loose.  I wonder how they will wear.  I haven't worn them yet because I haven't been to work because I got sick.  I'm curious.  The shirt is actually from last month.  Oops.  I'm not changing it now.  Too much work.

This is actually the shirt I made for my mom this month.  I mistakenly put the one I made last month in the collage.
Undies for Lily - my fit - first pair of undies I've made.    Another Pajama top - my fit loose fit

This dress is from my subscription box.  It was going to be my pretty entry this month.  It is a nice cool rayon.  It had bias tape hems for the neck and the arms.  That was new to me.  It also had a very strange way the waistband was attached.  The elastic was kind of folded into the fabric as the top was sewn to the bottom.  Very different technic.
Aaron's second pair of sport shorts.  He has a blue and orange already.  Finally finished Brandon's.  I had to shorten the elastic by a lot = rip out the entire waistband and redo it.  - multiple seams.  I finally finished them.

I made these almost matching dresses for lily and I for Mother's Day.  Gotta love her face.  Can you tell she didn't want to take pictures?  This was the rest of the fabric from the shirts I made my mom and I.  I love this fabric.  This was a fun pattern.   A bit tricky with the pleats on a knit that wanted to get heavy as it hung, but we got it done.  These dresses also have pockets which is fun.

March and April sewing

Totally didn’t manage to get march’s sewing done, so it is going together with April.  I sewed more than I thought.  I kept remembering and adding more.

New pjs. Made in March for warmer weather. 52 week of sewing something for vacation. I needed new cool pjs for Puerto Rico.

My fit capsule for Greenstyle creations March.  Also something useful for 52 weeks sewing project.
Pretty sure I counted these as my make something useful week for 52 week sewing challenge.  The tops have built in bras and can match black pants making it easy for me to change just my shirt after work and work out.

April projects for 52 weeks sewing

Easter shirt for Lily.

Shorts for Ben made in March.

Gym shirt for Tavio.

Headbands for our mud run,

New suit for lily.  Made one for me too.

This one is a tank for my 52 weeks of sewing sew something geometric challenge.
Made this shirt for me.  It was from my indie stitch box.  I liked it so well and had extra fabric that I made one just like it for my mom for her Birthday.  It is the first thing I have made for her.
Another pair of shorts I made for Ben in April.
Came back to add this pic of lily and I in our suits in Hawaii May 27.

February sewing

This was a crazy sewing month.  Anything that could go wrong did!

Made this for tavio. Fits a bit weird.  Not super happy with the neck

This actually turned out ok. Quick sew for lily for Valentine’s Day.

Swimsuits always take forever, but the child version was particularly bad.  It had binding and for some reason I couldn’t for the life of me sew it on straight.  It kept being wavy and crazy.  I ended up cutting it off, folding the elastic over and sewing it down.  It was a mess.  Oh, and the lining was extra big for some reason so I took it in before sewing it together.

This turned out cute but I broke a needle making it which flipped up and hit me in the neck.  Not cool. Other than that it was an easy enough make. Meant for scissors but I like it for screwdrivers, tweezers, clips, seam rippers, all the little things I put between my surger and sewing machine.

This dress was a beast.  I couldn’t for the life of me get the collar on correctly.  It was supposed to be binding but really seemed too narrow for that.  Plus the fabric doesn’t have enough recovery.  I tried a regular collar, it was wavy.  Tried again, wavy again, added elastic, still bad, folded the collar and elastic over and sewed it down, still bad.  Unpicked yet again 4 layers of stitches … did I mention this thread matches extremely well. So hard to tell what was seam and what was fabric. Went for a thicker collar but not quite as long.  Still bad.  Not enough fabric left to make the collar in one piece so I made it a bit longer, and had to have 2 seams in it not just one, but it finally went on and laid mostly flat so I’m calling it wearable,

I also made another pair of sweatpants for tavio and a pair os red super plush leggings for myself.

Found a pic of the super plush pants.

Found these other pics from the same day.  They were completed about he same time i think. This was a subscription box item.

This was also a subscription box item.  I remember thinking it may be my something with hearts so it must have been completed around this time.  Pic was taken feb 25

This is a dress I made lily.  She is always outgrowing her clothes and had nothing warm for church.
